My battery stats from yesterday with ART enabled:

I agree with most of the post on the subject, in that there's no real noticeable difference between ART and Dalvik and the option is included within the developer options for use by developers to get a head start on tuning their hardware towards the new system. I'll be switching back to Dalvik tonight.

Edit: Screen was set to Automatic.

A Wizard should know better!!!!!

Side Note: Modified thread title from "Yes, apparently ART has a noticeable affect in battery life" To "Yes, apparently ART has a noticeable (positive) affect in battery life" to clarify the position of the OP. As far as the degree of actual impact, I'd love to see a lot of analysis of before and after, comparing usage and associated metrics, etc. Like several other people here, I thought this was a change that's primarily geared towards Devs so far and would be very (happily) surprised if it were a great step for users to use it right away.

::: crying:::: I can't see your SoT. The gods are against me!! It's a conspiracy!:eek::eek:

Seriously, I can't see it. My connection has been flaky. I'll try again to view it in a little bit. The first one took forever to load. Ugh.

I tried Art for. Day. Apps do open faster and the phone is snappier and smoother. The only issue I had was the "ok google" command didn't work.

The battery seemed a little better but not by much.

Its been a whole day now using ART. I am a fairly heavy user who loves to get the most out of my phones battery. I would post pictures but I had to charge it later on this evening and I don't want anyone getting confused with the stats. So here goes. With dalvik I wouldn't get anymore than 3:30 screen on time and my total time would barely hit 10 hours. I was fairly disappointed to be honest. With ART, on the first day, I got a solid 5 hours screen on over a total of 12 hours. And that's with playing some games, YouTube, music through Bluetooth, internet, bunch of text. It was a good enough gain to me. Hopefully everyone can experience at least a little gain.

Agreed... The conversion process EATS your battery. I noticed a major speed improvement too. Lets see how the battery goes tomorrow.

Hopefully WhatsApp updates soon to support ART.
Until then, I unfortunately can't use ART.

I don't have an N5 (probably won't get it) but I'm curious if someone would be willing to run one way (either Dalvic or ART) for a few days and post screenshots (both battery and screen on time), make the switch and then run a few more days with the other way?

I'm wondering how much of a difference it makes, and I'm sure others are too.... but I'm thinking about the only way to nail it down is if the same person does it posting screen shots of before/after... that way we can be fairly certain useage patterns won't be changing too much, and a before/after would be a great way to compare. And I'm talking Something like this

Hi guys, here's my battery life and screen on time for the past 4 days running Dalvic

And after I switched over, here's my battery life and screen on time for the past 4 days running ART.

Would be a great side-by-side comparison, with as many variables removed as possible. It's kinda hard to quantify "heavy useage". To me, I do a lot with my phone, but I'm not what I'd consider a "power user". A friend of mine who has a higher-end phone only uses it for phone calls and texting, and considers ME a power user. So I think doing a direct comparison would be the most informative.

I'm enabling art right now and will try to do this depending on force closes. I will keep same kernel and rom also to keep it consistent.... This all depends on if my everyday apps force close or not tho.

Seems like you set the brightness at 100% and screen timeout to Never for 5h40min7s and used nothing with the phone and watched the phone draining the battery and now give give this "limited" information.
