I'm fully entrenched in the "don't want to load TrulyBadassAufDeutsch ROM V.3.8.4.2 because it starts that dreadful cycle of being a slave to the phone" camp so I fully empathize with those waiting on an official release, but I did root because it was easy and unlocked other features.

Just to clarify, rooting isn't the same as installing a random ROM.
