Wnat do you plan on using Samsung Tectiles for? I'm trying to get an idea of what I would do with them. I do have this one crazy idea (as always). Ok so you have an old watch that doesnt work or something on your wrist big enough for the tectile to fit on. Put the tectile on it and whenever you bring your phone to your wrist it calls the police lol. Imagine running down the street being chased by angey robbers. Pull out your phone put it on your wrist while running in a cool Power Ranger type look. The Tectile is programmed to share your location with the police and family members, call the police, and text your family that you are in an emergency situation. Other than wild dreamish things like that I have no idea what to use TecTiles for. Lol :p

I wouldn't mind putting one in my car and have it sync to the in car blue tooth. Other than that I probably don't have much of a use for them until I get my phone, then who knows.

I agree, having it automatically switch into "car mode" could be useful. Other than that, I'm not sure. I don't use it as an alarm clock (use my old Samsung Omnia for that), so I wouldn't need to put one next to my bed to switch to "night" settings.

I'll attach them like pasties. When I go for a jog I'll tap my left nipple to fire up endomodo and when I'm done I'll tap the phone against my right nipple to upload the results to facebook to annoy my friends. Should also prevent the dreaded sweat drenched tshirt nipple chaffing.

Well I can't really top Mikes idea but...

  1. One in the car - switch to car mode, bring up music player, and what ever else I need to do in the car. Second tap toggles back to normal settings.
  2. One at desk at work - ringer volume to 33%, bring up calendar/agenda, plus whatever. Second tap toggles back to normal settings.
  3. One where I charge the phone at night - set all volumes to 0%, plus whatever. Second tap toggles back to normal settings.

I will probably think of others once I have them available, not eligible for upgrade till Aug 1.

One for home profile, one for car profile, one for work profile, one at work for alarm clock/night settings, one at home for alarm clock/night setting, one at work to send a text when I am leaving to go home...

Loved the funny replies, but in all seriousness, the two above are very similar to my thoughts.

Overall, here's what I think the "big deal" and best usage of these will be, at least for me. I haven't had Android till now, moving from BlackBerry - but I understand there's a program called "tasker" that can be set up to do most anything you want, even complex stuff.

The thing is, how do you tell tasker WHEN to do something? I think you're limited to time settings. The great thing about Tectiles to me is this - it enables your phone to "know" where it is and react accordingly. If its in my car, then it needs to change a few things for car use. If its in its holster, then I'd like it to mute audio notifications for email, texts, etc. If its placed on my nightstand, then mute EVERYTHING, and set to only respond to a few close family members numbers who are programmed in case they call in the middle of the night for an emergency.

In all those cases, I also want it to revert back to "normal" settings when its removed - from the car, from the holster, from the nightstand. So there's the trick, use them to make the phone "aware" of where its at, and set it up to react accordingly.

If I buy the Mobile Hotspot for sprint... Or I root and tether (most likely). I might put one on my iPad. Tap it, hotspot comes on and connects it to the iPad.

Maybe I'll put one on the nightstand set it to ingore all calls and texts from people not in my favorites. (Possible right?).

I've already superglued tectiles to each of my kids' palms, so whenever they pick up my phone all gaming and internet will be disabled, the volume is pinned on high, and "The Girl from Ipanema" plays in a loop. Now c'mon Verizon... hurry up & ship my new GS3!

I use Tasker, and swear by it. A lot of my tasks are by time, but I do have others based on state, location, or actions.

my car profile activates when my BT connects to my car. When that happens, gps is turned on, app menus pop up and texts get an auto response about how im driving and will text back later.

If I text SOS! to my phone, it sends a gps location, turns on music full blast, and has a screen prompt with contact info

At night, my alarm launches based on being plugged in and in landscape.

Thats a small sample, I have about 50 different tasks set up

I want to like techtiles, but really, anything I can think about using them for, Tasker already does for me.

You guys are awesome. I totally get tired of all the prep work when I get into my car when using my phone as my main music player. The tectiles should make
to the bluetooth reciever i just ordered so much faster. Now I can throw that cord away that always shorts out every three months.

I am putting one in my car that starts the music player and selects "Afternoon Delight", then sends a text message to the wife to get home fast for a little "Afternoon Delight".

So far I've used 3 of my NFC tags from tagstand.com. I put 1 in each car to put car mode and enable bluetooth. I have one on the mounted to the underside of the nightstand in my infant's room that puts the phone into silent.

Working on what to do with the rest.

Putting a Tectile on the bottom of my Sony NEX 5N and use it to transfer pictures on the camera's Eye-Fi Card to the cloud via the MoPhotos app on the SG3.

I like the wristwatch idea...how close does the sticker have to be to the phone? Like can I put a sticker underneath my watch so it's hidden and still have the phone read it, or does the phone have to be touching the sticker? Cause tapping my phone to my watch and having it do something...even if it tells me the time....would be like a superpower or something.
I've been playing around with NFC tags with my EVO LTE and the back of my phone needs to practically be touching the tag for my EVO to read it. I do have a TFP case, so maybe that is limiting the range a bit.

I've got a tag on my desk with a switch for "home" and "sleep". I also have a tag in my car to turn bluetooth on, WiFi off, and media volume up. They are pretty cool and convenient if you want to do a task immediately, otherwise, using some other automated time-based app for changing settings would be easier.

This probably isn't possible but I'd like to put one near my door handle of my car. When my phone comes in contact I'd like it to unlock and start my car via the Viper Smart Start app.

I use Setting Profiles (like Tasker) for most stuff like that....silences my phone when I have meetings on my calendar, sends texts to my wife when I leave work, silences my phone when I'm at movie theaters, at night (unless my wife, parents, or boss calls), switches automatically to car mode, etc. So I don't really picture using Tectiles for that kind of stuff since I already have all of that automated.
I have used tasker, but I find it is just not reliable enough for me, and uses more power scanning for wifi location, gps, etc. My schedule is pretty erratic, so there are very few time specific tasks I can set. And I just am not confident that it has performed the task it was supposed to, so I am always checking it anyway, which kind of defeats the purpose. The worst, was when my ringer went off in the middle of church service, when it had long since had a tasker profile for church to silence everything! I just like the definitive-ness of the NFC solution, well, the idea of it, I don't have my SGS3 yet, to say how it works in real life.

Not sure how close it needs to be, but I just bought 10 stickers (should be small enough to fit on a watch back), and got a free NFC key chain fob, so you could just put the phone next to your pocket with keys in it...
