5/6 apps

Launcher pro plus ... really awesome UI, way better then the stock launcher and oddly faster, IMO.

Dolphin Browser ... great browser, very innovative and fun (opera may be faster though, I haven't used it yet)

Handcent ... Awesome SMS app, very customizable.

I think it's funny that these all basically change the phone from stock android to my own little OS. Maybe one day Android will just be awesome enough to keep it stock?

Lithium Music Player (btunes, whichever you prefer) ... music player, cooler then the stock (I double with isyncr to sync up with my itunes)

Astro File Manager ... I like to rename apps, and this comes with a task killer which you can use to save battery.

Beautiful Widgets ... Just makes the phone look awesome.

You use these 6 apps, and you can basically build your own interface to however you want to do whatever you want.

In no particular order...

- ASTRO File Manager / Pro
- DoggCatcher Podcast Player - Worked much better than Google Listen for me.
- Scanner Radio / Pro
- Advanced Task Manager
- And a tie (to fit six) between Touiteur and chompSMS

Yeah baby... APPS baby! *shudder* Too much caffeine this morning. -Pk

Handcent for SMS,
Touiteur Twitter client,
Beautiful Widgets for clock and weather widget,
Smooth Calender shows date and your appointments,
Our Groceries make a shopping list that syncs between devices. It syncs to my wife's 3GS.

Advanced Task Killer Pro - (I have a EVO and need all the battery conservation as possible)
Last.fm - because > Pandora
DoubleTwist - The widget is nice because it is only one line
TrueTrack Speedometer - My 68 mustang is very inaccurate, cool accessory
Fring works a lot better than the qik vide

Meebo - pretty solid chat client.
Slideit - didnt jump onto the swype beta but works pretty good so far
Aldiko - nice little ebook reader
Speed Test - always like to check how fast my wifi is going
Uninstaller - Its nice to have quick access to uninstall an app

Launcher Pro Plus: Best launcher and includes new widgets which are always being added and updated. Before switching to Launcher Pro, you should activate "clean slate" as your current scene if using HTC Sense UI or it will run really slow because the Sense widgets are running in the background.

Quick Desk: Extra screen for widgets and apps, launches with double tap on home key or works really nice when added as a swipe gesture over an icon on Launcher Pro. I don't have a single app icon on any screens after installing this with Launcher Pro. Super efficient!

Jorte Calendar: This is the best calendar/tasks app I have used. And my previous device was a Blackberry Tour. The thing I like best about it is being able to read my calendar events in month view similar to the month view of Google Calendar website version.

Handcent SMS: Just a better way to text if you prefer iPhone style.

YouVersion: Best Bible app and available on most smart-phones.

I figure i've lurker here long enough. After getting a Milestone on launch day (feb) here in canada, these are my most used apps.

Battery Widget - Accurate and small (1x1)

Advanced Task Manager free - Just put up the shortcut and bam, hit the blue button whenever you're finished with any app or you feel like your phone is bogging down.

Launcher Pro Plus - Only second app i've purchased. Best home replacement easily.

Astro - File manager/explorer. Works perfect. Free!

Bluetooth File Transfer - Self explanatory

Barcode Scanner - For qr codes

Craigsnotifica - I've bought so much simply from using this app. MUST HAVE

Dropbox - Have Syncing folders on your phone and your pc. Works wonderfully.

Engadget - Self-explanatory

Facebook - Self-explanatory

Appbrain/Fast Web Installer - Way better than market

FxCamera - Toycam effect is the best!

Gstrings - Best guitar tuner

Handcent SMS - You already know this

IMDb - official imdb.com app. no brainer

Jorte - sweet calendar

Key Ring - now I leave 6 cards at home instead of my wallet (make sure brightness is turned up or it has trouble scanning)

Opera Mini - fast browser

Ringdroid - ringtoner maker. so easy

Robo Defense - my first purchase in marketplace, fun game

Swype - great screen keyboard

Twitter - Self-explantory

yellowpages.ca - phone book in your pocket

No Lock - Just got this one, goodbye lock screen!

Nimbuzz
ES File Explorer
Rockplayer
BRUT Maps Navigation (since Google are being slow with releasing Nav in Sweden)
STHLM Travelling - awesome for checking train and bus schedules on the go and finding stops close to me

Those are the ones I use the most. I'm using all the yongzh emulators frequently (primarily SNESoid) as well as psx4droid. I use OfficeSuite for all my document needs. ;)

Notice that many are posting more than 5, but we'll keep the list lean. Phone = DroidX

1) SMS Unread Count
2) Jorte
3) Gauge Battery Widget
4) iSyncr for PC
5) Google Sky Map

I've had the phone for two weeks, and have tried many applications. Today my favorites are, in no particular order:

1. LauncherPro Plus

2. QuickDesk Beta - a hidden screen to place widgets, shortcuts, apps, that you can call up with the double tap on the home button.

3. SMS Popup - "An app that allows in depth customization of SMS/MMS notifications including a popup dialog that shows when a message is received." I tried Handcent SMS and chompSMS but neither of those did what I wanted. Neither does SMS Popup, but comes closer without the bloat.

4. SoundHound - I kept going back between SoundHound and Shazam (play music and it recognizes and will identify song / singer).

5. AppAlarm Lite - wake up to music - Pandora, Stitcher, Slacker Radio

Dropbox - sync / share files between computes;
PrinterShare Premium - print on wifi printers
Smart Shortcuts - tried a few others, like this one - organize all applications into a few folders that I can keep on my screen.

(sorry couldn't stop at 5)

I'm relatively new to Android, I did have a G1 but T-Mobile was so poor in my area I had to give it up. Since I am going back to Android with the release of Sprints Hero I'm just curious as to what some of your top 5 Android applications are.

Thanks!

1. Weather and Toggle Widget-Paid
2. Album Art Grabber-Paid
3. Handcent SMS-Free
4. ShopSavvy bar code reader-Free
5. Tesla LED-Free

Assistant Free aka pageonce ( Life saver.. keeps accounts in one place. like checking etc)

Weather Channel

Battery indicator

Knocking Live Video ( So cool, just get others to add this app and you/them can see each other as long as their is a camera function.

Fall Down ( fun game)

* Directv ( I get to add record a program from my dvr)

1. Weatherbug Elite
2. System Panel Lite
3. Relax and Sleep
4. Drop and Give Me Twenty!
5. AirFight

Does the game "Abduction" lag for anyone else? Or is it just my slow myTouch3G? :(

It's a 1mb app I don't get why it lags on my phone.

Did I post in this thread yet? Anyhow, as of today:

LauncherPro Plus ~ Specifically really like drag and drop uninstalls, drag and drop from the drawer to put something on a homescreen, would like drag and drop screen reordering one day like the Samsung launcher, but that's ok.
Nudnik ~ gives repeating alarms, helps me to actually hear the calendar alarms. Necessary utility for me.
SystemPanel ~ Really helpful in so many ways. Happy to have bought this definitely.
Tasker ~ Cool in the car to get tunes going with no fuss, and to turn on Flight Mode automatically at night to save batteries, but still learning slowlt to make the most of the app...
3Banana Notes ~ Simple way without much bloat to get notes to and from my phone. Really nice and simple.
Libra ~ trying to shed a few pounds and this is simple and easy to deal with, not much functionality but it does one thing well

Ok, that was 6 but what I use most often after having Android for a month or so.

Top 5 for me:

1. Launcher Pro Plus (Best launcher period)

2. Swype Keyboard (Takes some getting used to but once you do, you wont want to type ever again)

3. Jorte (Best Calendar app and syncs perfectly with Google Calendar)

4. Genie Widget (I use the News and Weather Widget. I spend most of my time on my phone reading the news in this widget)

5. Handcent SMS (The BEST sms on Android IMHO)

Honorable mentions:

Beautiful Widgets

Astro File Manager

Btunes (iTunes style music player)

TiKL (Touch To Talk, me and 5 other Android users in my Lodge use this when we have events and its just like using Nextel's Chirp)

3banana (Best notes app on Android if you ask me)

Better Cut (If you are serious about customizing your screens, you need this)

Alchemy (fun game)

Google Navigation (The best Nav app I ever used)
