Youtube App shows results, but says "No videos found"

hi all,

This is my first post. I'm reading a lot here, but haven't found anything mentioned about an issue I'm having with my new Verizon Fascinate.

Here's an example: I hit Applications>Youtube and do a search for "sexual chocolate" (looking for a clip from the Eddie Murphy movie: Coming to America)

I get a blue bar at the top saying 1038 results for "sexual chocolate" and a black screen that says No Videos Found.

If I open the browser (standard browser, not Dolphin or anything) and go to youtube.com and do the same search at youtube.com I get videos. I can play them and everything.

Can someone explain what might be happening?

Thanks in advance.

I just downloaded the new update yesterday. Ever since i DL'ed it i have that same problem with the youtube app. IDK how to fix it though

Thanks for the reply jgonzo.

I took my phone to the Verizon place where I got it and the reps there were completely dumbfounded. They had no way to fix the problem. The guy even called the techs. They suggested a factory reset, and pulling the battery, etc. No dice.

I experimented. "Sexual Chocolate" wouldn't bring up videos, so I tried "Sexual Healing" (Marvin Gaye song for you whipper-snappers). No videos. I searched "Healing" and got half a million results with videos. I searched "Sexual" and got half a million results with no videos. So it is obviously some type of "SafeSearch" function built in. I tried adjusting the settings of the YouTube app and there was a SafeSearch category, but it was grayed out and couldn't be accessed or adjusted. The reps in the store pulled up their Youtube apps and they didn't have the SafeSearch category. So the rep says, "Tell you what, let me set you up a new phone." He sets it up, and it works fone. No restrictions.

Then he applies the update L09(?) (sorry I'm a newb), and BAM. broken YouTube app.

So, it's the update that breaks the Youtube app, at least on the Fascinate. So Tuesday I'm going in again and he's going to set me up with a third phone and I simply won't accept the update.

So now I know what the problem is/was. Now I just have to figure out what the big deal is if i don't do the update.

Thanks anyway, folks. And I'm pretty surprised I stumped the forum. But at least we know what's up now.

Did you try attaching a Youtube account to your gmail address on the phone and disabling the filter on the web site manually?

Yes. The safety setting on the YouTube account was set at OFF. Just to be sure I clicked it again and it said I successfully disabled the safety setting. Keep in mind that when I used the browser on the phone I could successfully search for anything on Youtube and watch the video. It was just through the app that I was having issues.

I like Mr. bean too.

Now try doing a search for the video of the song "Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye. Just search "Sexual Healing" and let us know what results you get and if you can watch any videos.

the trouble I was having seemed to revolve around any term that could be considered inappropriate by some kind of parental protection or safesearch system. Like I mentioned above, I was able to search "healing" and get lots of results and watch videos. But when i searched "Sexual Healing" (which is in no way pornographic and even won Mr. Gaye a grammy) I got a results number, but the screen said "No videos found". And there are over 5,000 video results on YouTube when you search it on your PC.

If yours works, awesome! But mine wasn't working and one other person ran into the same problem.

You mean this video... YouTube - Marvin Gaye Sexual Healing. I'm on my non-rooted EVO.

Ps. I do have a YouTube account. I believe certain videos are block unless... you have an account verifying your age.

Here is another "Sexual Chocolate ... YouTube - Sexual Chocolate!. Note: Sometimes a video doesn't play the first time you tap on it. You might have to tap it several times, depending on your network connection.

Thanks for the reply.

Actually the guys at the Verizon place where I got the phone don't have the same problem on their Incredibles. It seemed to be unique to the fascinate. The guys behind the counter were amazed at the problem and the Verizon tech folks said they had no reports of the problem either.

And you're right about YouTube accts not playing stuff unless you can log in saying you're over 18 or something. I'm 41 and have a fully open Youtube account.

I'm not surprised the EVO doesn't have the issue. The Verizon guy offered to switch out my Fascinate for a Droid X that showed all the videos, but I like my Amoled screen too much.

Oh, and i wasn't even getting the thumbnails of videos to click. Just a black screen that said "No Videos Found" in little white letters.

Thanks again.
