YouTube videos pause during app updates?

Hey all,

I've tried googling this but I think the search terms are too vague. I have a Nexus 6P and I like to drift off to sleep while listening to YouTube videos. And it never fails, as soon as I start to play a video, my video stops. When I look to see why, I see that new apps are downloading/installing (I do have Play Store set to auto-update). I can just click play and the video starts playing again, but when the next app starts to download, the video will pause again. The weird thing is, it doesn't happen at a specific time every night. It happens when I start playing a YouTube video (as long as there are app updates). It's as if playing a video is what triggers the app store to start updating all apps.

So what gives? I've had Samsung phones the last few years and I didn't see this behavior. Is there a way to perhaps schedule the apps to update at a different time? Or better yet, why the hell pause the video when apps are downloading at all?

Thanks!

Do you have Restrict Background Data turned on at all? Or do you have any 3rd party power-saving apps installed?

Personally, I don't like keeping Auto Update Apps on. There are times when you don't want an app to auto-update, like if there's a known issue for a certain app update.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I run pretty much stock, though I do use the Nova launcher. I'm about 99% sure this happened even before I used Nova though. And I do not restrict background data.

Yeah, I suppose I could/should just disable the auto-updating of apps. It's just maddening that the downloads seem to be triggered by me starting to play a video.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue, was google searching for the longest couldn't find a answer until now. Guess our only option is to turn off auto update from the play store until we can find out why does this actually pauses youtube videos from a simple action such as updating apps in the background. Kind of defeats the purpose of multitasking, maybe it's not a big deal to others but I rather not go through every app to manually update.

Have you tried using a browser like chrome or Firefox to play videos instead?

Sweet baby jesus I have this same issue. Not limited to YouTube. Watching a show on Hulu. Suddenly it pauses, and starts from the beginning. Every time, it's stuff being updated. I run no 3rd party software. Stock nexus 6p.

It also well pause games I'm playing. So frustrating. Why can't there just be a pause downloads with the notification of the downloading item?

If you'd like to feel a little less crazy, open the Google Play Store, swipe in from the left side of the screen and select Settings -> Auto-update apps and select 'Do not auto-update apps'.

If it's not already checked, select the "App updates available" checkbox.

Had noticed this for a while with YouTube but seems to be happening with Plex too.
