Z1 wont save pics to my SD card

I get an error saying the card "memory is write protected, could not edit files" when setting the path. Its a 32 Gb been using in my Xperia Ion for last 2 years. Does anyone have a fix? Thanks in advance.

When it was in the old phone did you password protect it? Have you tried to format the card?

Did not password protect it. Did not format the card afraid to lose data etc.

I did manage to get it to work by reformatting it. Thank you so much.
