Looking to upgrade my Moto X Pure 2015

I looked into X4 vs. Z2 Force
Not sure which to buy.

  • Both have a faster recent CPU
  • Both have dual camera. I like bokeh
  • Both have removable micro-SD
  • Both are 4GB/64GB
  • Battery. 2700 vs. 3000mAh
  • Both have Turbo charging.

X4: I like bright screens, so IPS wins ?
X4: Headphone jack?

X4 used: $200
Z2 Force used: $300

It seems Z2 Force is more "current" and active (more for sale, etc)
Plus, if buying used, the Force is discounted from $700 to $300
while X4 is only discounted from $350 to $200.

I am now leaning towards Force.
Is there anything the X4 beats the Z2 Force in ?

The main selling points of the Z2 Force are Moto Mods and the Shattershield screen. Both are great phones, both are fairly current as far as Android goes abd both offer about the same Moto features (chip for flashlight, Moto Voice, driving mode, etc). A lot comes down to whether you want a glass screen (X4) or a flexible shatter proof Shattershield screen, and possibly Moto Mods (Z2). Both would be a good choice, so it's probably not an easy decision

Z2 Force seems to be a better phone, however it's likely that the X4 gets better battery life. IPS vs LED doesn't have a default winner on brightness, really depends on the panel and how Moto implemented it. Both phones are supposed to get Android 9. X4 has better BT model and water resistance, otherwise they're very similar.

True, some folks with the Z2 are complaining of vehicle Bluetooth issues since receiving Oreo 8.0. I'm not sure if the X5 has the same 8.0 with the same issues? They should be resolved if we ever get 8.1. The issues don't affect my phone with Jeep U Connect, I am out & about today jamming music, calls and texts are fine. But other vehicle Bluetooth systems do seem to be affected.

X4 is physically smaller than Z2F. X4 is already on 8.1 with Aug security. X4 has wide angle secondary camera. X4 is IP68 water resistant. X4 has a headphone jack. X4 has the no-burn-in LCD panel with a glass cover screen. X4 has the multiple Bluetooth speaker party mode.

Z2F has AMOLED screen for inky blacks. Faster CPU. Support for Moto Mods. Plastic screen (easy to scratch, hard to break).

Sounds like you're in favor of the X4.
I like headphone jack and glass screen is not an issue
I like waterproof and better BT version.
X4 is also cheaper.

Why was Force so much more costly than X4 ?
Problem is that NIB X4 with 4GB/64GB costs just as much as Force ($350)

Force was a flagship a couple years ago, basically paying for the higher end Qualcomm soc, Moto mod functionality, "unbreakable" display, etc.
