Z3 Glass front

Hello ! As a new 3 owner I am very happy with it. I only have one concern.
I learned after the purchase the glass front is just tempered glass.
I thought all the phone manufacturers used a type of gorrilla glass these days.
Does anyone know how durable the tempered glass is for day to day use and drops.
I am very active outside during the summer time and want to protect it.
I already have my Z3 in a Otter box and made it a brick !

My Z3 has taken a few bumps and rubs that would scratch 'normal' glass, with no issues. As to the the overall strength of the Z3's glass v others, I can't say.

I use a case mate cover on mine. Has a rubber inner/hard plastic double shell. Dropped a few times without a mark or crack, and doesn't 'brick' the phone like Otterbox does.

I've dropped mine twice. Once from the edge of my coffee table down onto the hardwood floor in my living room and it survived without a mark. The other time was pulling it out of my pocket and it fell onto a gravel parking lot and it survived without a mark or scratch.

On the last instance I believe it was pure luck that it survived scratch, mark, dent, ding and broken glass free. I choose to carry my phones naked so I know if I drop it that there is a chance it won't survive.

With a phone like the Z3, some type of insurance is almost mandatory. I have Square Trade and it's only $5 a month for the coverage. I believe the deductible is $75 if you make a claim.

If you are going to carry it naked then get some insurance. I don't think the phone is as fragile as some people think it is and mine has survived 2 drops but it does have a glass front and back so if dropped the chances of broken glass are high...
