Z3C Battery Drain + Ugly Clock

I love almost everything about my new Z3C but the battery drain.
I throttled down known suspicious power users: disabled/removed almost all apps, their caches, wifi is off, airplane mode, extended standby in Stamina mode, etc. etc. I also have no cell service yet installed. Still, I am losing between 4% and 8% daily in battery reserve.
What else can I do to reduce battery drain?

And what is it with that ugly square/rounded edge clock on the home page? Are there other models to choose from?

If you have no cell service it could well be because the handset is looking for it! It's programed to have a cell connection at all times, and this is just a theory, but it's possible that your phone is constantly searching for the connection it knows should be there, but isn't. On the other hand it could be the same thing that's draining everyone else's battery 🔋

And what would that be?

If you do a long press on the clock on the lock screen you can then swipe between the default choices for the clock (two digital, one analog).

If you're still running Android 4.4, you can install widgets on the lock screen, including other clocks. If you've upgraded to Lollipop, you can't do that.

Thanks for that. Can I not choose a different clock from Google Play apps?

You can if the clock can function as a Widget and you're not running Lollipop for an OS.

If both are true, you can do a long press while on the lock screen and then swipe sideways until you get to a screen for adding new widgets. Then you can add a new clock (I added a calendar widget that would show my day's schedule on the lock screen).

Unfortunately, with the switch to Lollipop, the ability to add widgets to the lock screen was dropped.
