ZTE tethering to tablet

I just got this ZTE android LTE. I think it is a Prelude. It has a sim card. The gal at the AiO store me to get a tablet with a sim card slot so I can connect to internet. Can I tether my phone to connect the tablet and can I get a tablet that does not have a sim card. Makes no sense to pay for both devices to have the same unlimited plans. Tablets with sim card slots are more expensive and hard to find. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you
