zvc lag, Roms , roots and questions

Are you able to do settings->privacy->reset and try again? It clears out data/cache so you should have stuff backed up.

I cleared Datacache before starting any process, I can try again and see how it goes.

z4root is normally quite reliable on v9. Not sure what is going on with your install.

We can try doing manual rage method of rooting if you'd like or continue trying to figure out why z4root isn't working.

Ok after many different tries, reinstalling z4root I got it to work, but mostly rooting combinations including superoneclick and many restarts.
Now if I load Xionia CWMA
Can that also load custom roms
Not sure where to go from here

Yes, install Xionia CWMA custom recovery. It will install custom ROMs and it won't brick if you do resets from within android.

After that, use LG Mobile Update Tool to upgrade to VD.

Then choose which ROM you want, put the zip file on your SD card, boot to recovery, wipe data/cache/dalvik (sometimes needed), and select the zip file to flash.

If I upgrade to VD won't I lose root if I decide not to go with a custom rom?
As long as you have CWMA recovery prior to upgrading and use LG Mobile Update you should be fine. Just rerun the FlashRootVD-signed.zip after the upgrade.

Thank you for everyones help on this.
I did do some backups of what I have , apps / Rom / info.
Is there a large difference between stock roms and custom roms?.
Trying to figure out if it is worth doing a custom rom.

Usually slight performance, visual differences, some annoying bugs fixed.

TR1.8.x makes changes to add personal hotspot back in.

Some people swear by custom ROMs. LG's stock ROM is pretty decent and doesn't have a huge amount of bloat. It is really personal preference. You're going to either need to read some peoples' experiences or try it out yourself.

With a NANDROID backup of your current it should be pretty painless to try out new ROMs.

Thats cool, but wouldnt loading nandroid overwrite xionia ? I did a backup on that already before going to TR.
I seen that the only difference between that and stock is build is thunderom and changes in different areas of course.
Also seen Cyanogen mod, trying to sort out all the differences.

When you try out different ROMs you are going to overwrite stuff all the time using the ROMs installer. NANDROID on the other hand doesn't use installers and just captures and restores images of the critical system partitions.

Even though Xionia CWMA custom recovery backs up the recovery partition, it doesn't restore it, so it wouldn't overwrite (itself).

May I?

Can i tag onto this?

I have just reverted to V9 from VD using the KP500 and LG Update method in a previous thread.

The main reason i did this was because i wanted the hotspot back (OTA VD wiped that puppy out) and the ability to move more programs to the SD card using Titanium backup (so more phone memory for me as my e-mail was filling this up all the time....).

Can you tell me if i should and can use this method to update to VC or VD using the LG updater? What would the advantages be? I do need to be able use hotspot for sure and would like to still be rooted.

I tried to follow the android sdk and custom recovery part but couldn't see how to use or where to get those commands going and why it was not working on my cpu. i did install Android sdk but could not link installing that to getting the custom recovery going that everyone said was the next step to....

I am just lost at this point i guess and wonder if i should try and get VC or even VD onto it or not.

any help and info would be great. thanks.

Android SDK you have to do in a command prompt. took me a while to figure it out too. cmd in run or search area.
Hotspot can be used with quicksettings without rooting (you can find it on android market..
Did you root your phone now that you are on V9 >?
I used superoneclick, but z4Root should work too.
Don't update to VC or VD until you have it rooted.

After you root it follow these instructions

yes i used the KP500 and LG mobile updater to force flash V9. then i rooted with Z4root. I do have quick settings and use the hotspot.

so, i go to that site, Custom Recovery Xionia, and the part i am stuck at is here:

"via adb shell or terminal type this from root # shell" ... i guess that is the part i dont know how to install this or if i should.

I would like to keep the hotspot working, have root and have the latest update to my phone with ZVC or ZVD. can i have all those or is that impossible?

thanks

you have to go into cmd prompt and point to your adb.exe file for android sdk tools.
C:\Users\name\Desktop\android-sdk_r07-windows\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools\adb
is where I have mine.
Once you get onto that and have your phone plugged into pc with developer mode on you should be able to load the Xionia program from your phones SD card.
Just make sure that the file is there.

When in adb shell make sure you follow all instructions Here :

I was able to revert to V9 and root with z4root as well, but as a NEWBIE some of the terms are getting me confused when it comes to getting the Xionia Custom Recovery. What is the root # shell? Is it the same as C:android\tools? Also, when each forum shows # in front of everything is that supposed to be typed? I've been trying to follow the instructions to the letter but the command prompt keeps telling me my commands are innacurate. Frustrating...
