Gnex in China

I posted this in the Common area but apparently, no one has the answer...

Im getting ready to head to Shanghai, will I still be able to use Gtalk (over wifi) to video and voice call my wife's Gnex like I do now? And to just send text/chat messages as well?

I don't see why you couldn't use it over WiFi, that would be the same as using a deactivated device here over WiFi which I have done.

thats what Im hoping, but I know in the past, verizon had blocked certain apps (like skype) from working outside of the country, like on my trip to Aruba...

I traveled to the Philippines with my Verizon Galaxy Nexus last February and I was able to use it for phone/video calls and texts using WiFi based apps such as Tango and Viber. As long as the area has a modest WiFi signal, you should be fine.

I have a stock, locked, non-rooted phone. And I've never signed up for Verizon's international plans.
