First, my questions will prove that I don't know much about phones so bare with me.
1. I am not sure but awhile back my phone started updating and then a lot of things changed. Did my phone update it self to the new jellybean from gingerbread?
2. How do I know if I have the new jellybean?
2. After this updating a lot things did not work right for instance:
When I am reading a text message or typing a text message and I get a new message the alert sound goes off but it want turn off no matter what buttons I push. Even if I close out of the text message window and open it back up to the new message the sound will not go off. It plays the full song.
3. How do I make it stop?

Please help!

1. The Galaxy Nexus originally came with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. So no, your Galaxy Nexus was never on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

2. To check your system software, go to 'Settings'. Then scroll down and tap 'About Phone'. You should see which software version you are currently on.

Remember...
? Android 4.0.x is Ice Cream Sandwich
? Android 4.1.x is Jelly Bean
? Android 4.2.x is Jelly Bean

As for the text message problem, I don't really know how to fix it, sorry. I hope someone else from the forums can help you out.
