Verizon LG G2 - Does anyone use "phone keyboard" T9??? got a question

i have noticed with the stock key board in "phone" mode. (meaning using number keys instead of qwerty), T9 predictive text is greyed out and unavailable during some conditions (browser use, contacts, search bar etc) it works fine in text . third party keyboards work fine, why is LG stock keyboard locking T9 option? i have my settings set to allow predictive text. anyone? thanks
