How can I save $20 from unlimited text messages?

Are there any apps out there that just uses data to send out texts?? Is it possible to save $20?

$20/month for text messaging in 2014? wow that's a crime. why not call Verizon and switch plans? or better yet free yourself from those heavy chains and buy an unlocked Nexus 5 direct from Google and switch to prepaid no-contract AT&T GoPhone or Straight Talk.

Yes there are apps that can be used for text like Google voice but people would have to text the Google voice number.

He shouldn't give up unlimited Verizon data until they force it... Especially since he doesn't need unlimited minutes .

I use Google voice. AFAIK, there is no way to send it from your number for free.

He said Google voice. It will use data for texts but it will just be a different number.

With Google voice you can text normal numbers.. The other person doesn't have to be using it.

Correct no mms in Google voice. You can use email, Facebook, Dropbox or whatever if you want to avoid sending mms through the carrier.

Not to go off topic, but do you have a lot of trouble receiving MMS? I always wonder if Google will have the ability to fix on their end, since there will be changes to Google Voice in mid-May.

MMS via Google voice doesn't work apparently they said.

If you mean receiving MMS via Verizon.. You shouldn't have an issue.

I should've clarified. I know it doesn't work, but he had given alternatives to send MMS (DropBox, email, etc). I didn't know if he had any alternatives for receiving. Some carriers will automatically forward the picture to your Gmail address, but Verizon and AT&T won't.
