Isn't NFL Mobile App Not Supposed to Use Your Data?

I watched some games on my phone yesterday while I was out away from a wifi signal. Then I got some notifications (after the fact) that I was low on data and then out of data. I had had like 2 gigs remaining on the last few days of my billing cycle.

I've gone several years without ever exceeding my monthly data plan. The $15 or whatever is no big deal--I just thought the NFL Mobile streaming was never supposed to count against your monthly data. Did something change?

I'm on Verizon too and multiple times they had announcements that this app would not apply to your data limit. I have unlimited now, but before that it showed up on my bill as "free bee" data. I would call about this.

I think that was for last year. That doesn't stand for this year.

Sons a bitches. They got me like that in Sunday. I went over because of it, pissed me off. They made a big fuss about it being free bee data but changed it without much notice. I don't recall seeing anywhere that they stopped the program. I figured maybe I went over because of a little news reading, not so sure now.

Good ol Verizon. Always screwing us over. I never saw that announcement that it wasn't free anymore.

I was thrilled I can delete the NFL Mobile app from my Note 8. In the past I could only disable pre-loaded apps, now Verizon allows you to delete the apps.

I stopped watching the NFL last year, did not watch one down in 2016. I Don't plan to ever watch the NFL again.

I assume they removed it since they want people to move over to the unlimited plan.

I used it to watch games this Sunday while at a pool tournament. Worked well :).

The data is zero rated on all tiered data plans when using NFL Mobile or Go90 to view games. On the unlimited plans, however, it will still count towards the 22 GB prioritization threshold. Data usage may appear in My Verizon after a while (especially if any usage may have been incurred whole roaming - can cause a delay), but it should remove after a like 48 hours or something like that. Downloading/updating the app will use data normally if downloaded over data from the Play Store.

That's the only answer I have. I do not know the inner workings of it all. Just that that is how it should work.

(Saw this forum post and created an account just to clarify this. Figured it'd be good to have actual answers rather than it being a guessing game.)

If you are having issues with data usage regarding NFL Mobile or Go90, I suggest calling in to discuss the issue. If the usages were incurred during the preseason, it may not have been covered (except for in Go90). To the best of my knowledge, I think it only covers the actual season and post season.

Thanks. It never dropped off my bill; definitely got a $15 overage charge. I'll just bring it up tomorrow when I call in about an unrelated matter (turning in my old phone for my Note 8 credit).

Verizon's advertisement for NFL mobile on their website says data usage applies for download/usage.

I know it's been free in the past, but it was probably just for the season.

Yeah I believe it was for the season because they had nothing but tiered plans back then. Now they want people to get all on the unlimited plans so they don't want to cut breaks for people not on the unlimited plan.

Well I guess I am wrong. A Verizon rep posted this on Reddit so it seems it should be free. It just sounds like they are going to charge the data but ... give it back 48 hours later? Weird. Very weird.
