Weird Google Play Music app problem

So this started last week, spontaneously as far as I can tell.
In the Play Music app, there is a section that will slowly scroll the album cover art back and forth, nearly full screen, while you're listening to music.

Suddenly, on my phone, it no longer does this. Instead, it simply jerks side to side, back and forth, with no slow, smooth pan any more.

A reinstall didn't solve it. Any thoughts? Anyone ever see this?

They've been having problems with this since the UI refresh. For me and others, sometimes the album art is completely slanted. I imagine they'll work on solving it, but it's probably considered a minor aesthetic glitch by Google, so my guess is that it's low on the priority list.
