At&t to us cellular emojis

Me and my boyfriend both have the Galaxy S5 but he has us cellular and I have At&t, when he sends me emojis I can see them, but when I send them to him it comes up with a bunch of nothing. Why is this happening and is there a way to fix it?

It could be a network issue and how emojis are being sent. This came up in another thread, and now I'm starting to think it's the carrier limiting emojis. If I'm correct, emojis are sent as mms, so this could be the reason why. If the carrier restricts mms, or the persons plan does not include it, then that could be why emojis are not being shown.
