Welcome to Android Central! Are the videos on Internal Storage or an external SD card?

If it's Internal Storage, connect the phone via USB, then use your computer's file explorer to drag and drop the videos to your computer's hard drive. Make sure you Copy, not Move, in case something goes wrong during the transfer. Move will delete the source file, so if something goes wrong, you'll lose the whole file. Copy leaves the source file intact.

If it's on an SD card, unmount the card in Settings>Storage, remove it, and insert it into your computer's card reader. Then use the computer's file explorer to drag and drop the video to your computer's hard drive.

The reason the video won't play on your desktop is probably that you don't have a program on the desktop that can play that format of video. Try VLC media player. That plays almost anything.
