My Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-19300) suddenly died, can I fix it?

Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-19300) suddenly died

I have had my Samsung Galaxy S3 for approximately 3 years. Last night it suddenly died completely.
The battery was fully charged.
I have removed the battery and reinserted it. (No joy)
I have tried pressing all combinations of the recovery buttons. (No joy)
I have plugged in my charger. (No charging light appears, and nothing comes on the screen)
I have tried turning it on when it is connected to the mains/charger. (No joy)
At NO point does anything respond at all, and the screen is completely dead, with nothing showing at all, at ANY point.....not even the Samsung logo.
Is it repairable, or is it time to throw it in the bin?

Don't give up that easily! It may just need a new battery.
