Phone Lag Help?

[AC Question]

Hey guys I have a Nexus 5.. it shouldn't be lagging the way it does. It constantly freezes or delays typing, eg I'll be typing something it freeze and then seconds later what I typed will appear.. apps are always freezing up and closing. I realize I probably need to reset the phone but I don't want to lose all my apps and everything, is there a way to backup the phone the way Iphones do so I can have everything come back after I restore?

Also see what happens if you boot into Safe Mode. https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/2852139?hl=en. If the phone's performance is back to normal in Safe Mode, then some app (or apps) you installed is impacting performance.
