How do I stop the personalized text message sound from continuing even after I've opened up the text

I have personalized text message sounds for different people's text. I've noticed that often times that the notification sound doesn't stop even after I pick up my phone, turn it over, or even after I start to respond to the text- the sound keeps going! How do I stop this?

They normally play to completion, so if you have a 30 second sound file and you open the text after 5 seconds, you're still going to hear the remaining 25 seconds. The only way to "stop" that is to use shorter sound files. They'll repeat over and over until you open the app.

You can use an app like Zedge to find a shorter version of the sound as well.
