How to get rid of deleted files that still show up in documents>downloads

[AC Question]

I have android 5.1.1 and i downloaded some files but deleted them after
I taught all was good until recently when i was in pixlr (a photo editing application) and i clicked add picture it took me to documents
There i clicked downloads and when scrolling though i saw the files
The files were greyed out and couldnt be clicked but the names still show up and download date and the memory it took
I taught it was the app and then proceeded to try it with another and the same thing occured
There is no delete function and it is still there for anyone who uses those apps which require the documents app to be used to select photos to see
How do i get rid of this because it serves like a download history which cannot be changed

Welcome to Android Central! How did you delete the downloaded files? Using the Downloads app, or using a file manager app in the Download directory?

I deleted them using file manager because of the fact that this android didnt come with the downloads application

Are the files on Internal Storage or an SD card?

What phone do you have? I'm going to suggest wiping the cache partition, if it's possible on your phone.
