I can't get Pokemon Go to start, stops at Niantic screen

[AC Question]

Installed Pokemon Go on my Android KitKat 4.4 tablet, downloaded no problem
App never starts. Should I delete and download again?

I don't have a solution for you yet, but I can tell you that I have seen several other posts here from users with versions earlier than Lollipop that can't get Pokemon Go to start. It sounds to me like it is an issue with the app running on Kit-Kit or Jellybean.
