I am making the leap to my first smartphone, an HTC Inspire 4G which I am going to run on Straight Talk with one of their SIM cards. Right now, I have service through AT&T on a Pantech Link with NO data plan.
I understand how to port my number to a new carrier/phone, but what I am struggling with is how to get my contacts/pictures from my old phone to the new one without AT&T detecting a smartphone and automatically adding it to my plan and/or renewing my expired contract. Do I port my number to Straight Talk first, then after service has ended with AT&T, take the SIM card from my old AT&T phone, pop it in the new one, and transfer contacts that way?
