LNWJ, those are just emoticons. The N4 does support true emoji with the stock messaging app though:

Chomp and Go SMS both have Emoji keyboards... I wish they could be used on Twitter along with iPhone texting, but oh well, I'll take what I can get.

ChompSMS? I'll check that out. In looking for a stock messenger replacement I tried out GoSMS and was overwhelmed by sht being thrown in my face and third party themes that I thought were first party and had access to crap on my phone that themes shouldn't have access to... themes!

I have tried all those third party SMS apps, one of them has an emoji add on to download which has all the iPhone emojis, and none of them have worked with my iOS friends.

From what I see if you have a nexus branded phone then you have the option for some type of emoji, but if not then you would have to download a 3rd party app. Handcent, GoSms, and Chomp all work very well, but chomp seems to be the cleanest.

Looks like one person has gave the correct answer. Yes. It comes stock. You just have to enable it in the language and input settings.
