Nexus 5 arrives Monday. In an attempt to figure out how to get unlimited, non-contract 4G LTE service in Memphis, I visited, Wal-Mart, T-Mobile & Target this morning. Information from clerks and brochures remains contradictory, but maybe the following will help some of you or get corrected by those who really know:
With the possibility that all of my trouble getting 4G service from Sprint in the Memphis area is due to my HTC EVO 3D, I may wind up revisiting what they can offer before activating the Nexus 5. It shouldn't be this difficult to find unlimited, non-contract 4G LTE service billed to an American Express card with no credit/payment risk to the carrier.
- Wal-Mart's service "related to" T-Mobile is called FamilyMobile. I got a brochure that says I can activate that service and pay $39.88 per month.
- Wal-Mart also sells Straight Talk, which I was told is an AT&T service, for $45 per month for unlimited service.
- T-Mobile wants $70 per month for the first line for unlimited service. They also told me that FamilyMobile does NOT use T-Mobile's network - only the towers. I have little confidence in this claim.
- Target offered a brochure with completely different pricing for T-Mobile's service, but no one could answer any questions.
