Friend isn't receiving my texts

Probably not the correct forum for this but here it is . . . I have a Nexus 5 and using Hangouts as my SMS app. My friend is an iPhone user but recently switched to a Note 3. He was getting my texts on iPhone 5S and subsequently on the Note 3. He used a nano to micro SIM adapter to use the iPhone 5S SIM in the Note 3. After a few days of using the Note 3 he decided it was too big and switched back to his 5S (still using the same SIM). But since switching back to the 5S he can't get any of my regular SMS texts. If I send him a picture (MMS) he gets it just fine but no actual texts. I'm completely stumped

Tell him to check the settings in iMessage. Perhaps that's what is the issue.
