i didn't see any others experiencing this issue, so i thought i'd open one up (sorry if there i still made a dup). since i got the phone last thursday, i was wondering why my signal seemed kinda weird. anyway, i went out of town over the weekend and noticed my 3G radio wasn't working at all. if there was no 4G connection available, the phone was dead.
i tested this side by side with my brother who had a working galaxy nexus and set:
Settings > Wireless & Networks - More > Mobile networks > Network Mode: CDMA
mine would never connect to 3G. i went to the store and i think the lady confused my issue with the weak signal issue and told me to wait for an update (but don't wait longer than Jan 15th since after that i'd get a refurb if the sw update didn't fix it). after battery pulls, power cycles, factory resets and a new 4G sim the issue was still reproducible. long story short, i had her note that in my account and went to a different verizon where they swapped it for a new one and we checked it on the spot. worked!
