Rooting and Cynogenmod

i'm lil bit novice to this rooting and flashing custom roms, but i am very much interested, as i want to flash CM to my Galaxy Nexus which is bit slow for me. what i want to know is when an update rolls for CM or for the android OS how can i do the update ? is it like just pressing an update button or have to go through a process ?

Cyanogenmod has an automatic update feature build in to the OS from 4.2(maybe in 4.1 as well, not sure). its just like going to about phone and checking for the update.

or if you want to manually update go here CyanogenMod Downloads download the latest file. placed it in the phone and just flash from recovery very simple.
