Why isn't my Nexus 5x being recognized on the computer since the latest update?

My nexus 5x is not recognized on the computer since the latest update

It is not the new marshmallow issue. I have tried multiple computers and cables.
The cable can charge the phone but the computer or devices does not recognize that it is connected on the usb level

Welcome to Android Central! If you swipe down the notification panel, is there any USB notification at all?

no there is no notification on the status bar. the computer also does not make any noises of a hardware connection

Ok, but just to be sure--there's no notification when you swipe down as well? On my Nexus 5 running MM, the notification doesn't appear in the status bar, but is there in the swipedown notification panel

Are you able to connect it to a different PC?

Sorry, but do you mean that you connect it to other computers and it still doesn't work? Or that you don't have any other computers you can try connecting to?

i tried multiple computers with different os's no change.
Do you think it is a hardware issue or software?

Sure sounds like software issue if it started immediately after the last update. You could try reinstalling the firmware: How to manually update your Nexus | Android Central

I was going to suggest this. The USB C to A cables are all different. There is a page somewhere that has the ones that tested good. I also know that some of the C to A cables have ONLY the Charging pins and not the data pins.

It is very likely you've got a cable that is not made to spec. I have been happy with the ones from MonoPrice. They use the same supplier as Google does for the ones it sells in the Google Store.
