This rom has been retired, please look into Harmonia, it's brethren.

Aphrodite 1.3.3B Extra Pure Edition with stock Virgin kernel (Verified Working!) (14apr11)

This is a special edition of Aphrodite 1.x, version numbers will match the Aphrodite 1.x tree, however it uses the original Virgin Kernel for those who have trouble with the Xionia kernels with charging or just want to remain as close to stock as possible. I will try to keep it up to date, but it will typically follow a little behind Aphrodite 1.x and 2.x by a day or two as it has less priority. Minor changes, like fixes since the last match to Aphrodite will now use a letter, so this tweak to fix 1.3.3 is called 1.3.3A so that it still matches 1.3.3 Aphrodite Std.

Please note that I do not, and have no plans to run this myself, and therefore it will have little testing. It's intended for those who need it. Personally I prefer 1.3.3 STD and the 2.0 versions. So please post your experiences with it so I can make any necessary adjustments.

Use at your own risk.
Fresh installs should wipe all, plus Dalvik (in advanced) to get the maximum space savings.
As with all Aphrodite roms, you can just flash over older versions (of Aphrodite) in most cases without issue. Until Stable, do not do this.

For more information about this rom, please see the thread concerning Aphrodite 1.x:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/opt...1275-rom-aphrodite-1-3-3-updated-01apr11.html

Aphrodite Variations
1.x This rom will remain on the Xionia .005 kernel which has proven quite stable.
1.x Extra Pure, this uses the stock Virgin kernel (not overclockable), it is meant for those who have charging problems with other kernels.
2.x This rom will use the 1.x/android 2.2 base, but pushes the kernel forward and is therefore less stable.

Older versions at the end of this post.

This rom has had everything removed that can within reason
What is here (just enough to get you going):
Stock Virgin kernel
Activate
Email (not easily obtained from the Market, or it would be gone as well)
Gallery3d
Live wallpaper chooser
Market (updated)
Vendor updated
SuperUser
Swype!
Malware patch

Speed tweaks
Search Widget
Normal utilities like phone, camera and such.

What was removed (the apps can be gotten from the Market):
Anything Virgin related besides the Activate App.
Gmail
Google Maps
Google Streetview
Most Wallpaper/all live wallpaper
Most ringtones
Other languages (English is all that is left, sorry)
Some of the alarms
Youtube

Notes:
In Recovery, use Wipe data/factory reset then go into advanced and wipe Dalvik cache to recover the full space and get the full potential from this rom.

This should work with Thunderc, Xionia and ROMTools by Mmmark111. (see below for links and recommendations)
The Activate shortcut auto deletes from the desktop on first boot, this is expected.
Not much more can safely be removed, not without creating issues or hassles.
Wipe or don't wipe (if using 2.2), you should be okay, but I would anyways. See the first note.
If you wipe everything, bear in mind that there is no boot animation included so you will see the Android logo longer than normal. Boot animations are easy to find and install.

I flashed this ROM by going in recovery (xionia cwma 125184), used wipe data/factory reset then under advanced wiped Dalvik cache and flashed the rom.

Here is what I noticed so far. I did get the virgin boot animation but there was no sound. My home and menu buttons are reversed. I get an error when I try to turn on WiFi. I can adapt to the button reversal but not having WiFi is a killer considering the fact that VM 3G network can go down any moment for an extended period of time.

I would try again, it sounds like you missed something. The Virgin animation should not be there, and considering the number of downloads, if this was a major issue, someone woudl usually have said something by now, but I will look into it later tonight to verify.

So after I restore to my good nandroid backup, I got the stock, deodexed system and used the ultimate theme kitchen to flash a new framework-res and boot animation (CIA login). All this worked just fine.

I then tried your pure edition again and this time I got the VM boot animation (w/o sound), the CIA animation and then got into system. WiFi still did not turn on.

I went back to the stock deodexed system and themed framework-res without any issues.

So perhaps I am doing something wrong but I do not know what it is. I wiped everything that can be wiped from the recovery and still got the same results.

I also am seeing the Virgin Mobile boot animation, then the standard Android flashing text. My buttons are also reversed. Trying to tap WiFi on results in the text Error showing up immediately.

Will be trying some other rom because this is simply not workable. I look forward to seeing what comes out in the next release and trying again then.

Seeing Virgin then back to Android is correct, I forgot about that. As soon as I have time I will break down this rom and fix the issues. Shouldn't take long. I just haven't had time.

Do you know why the WiFi does not turn on? I get the same error message as the other person who posted.

Is it necessary to do a data wipe before flashing or will clearing dalvik cache be enough? I am wondering if it's possible to keep the apps and other settings I have created on the phone.

Odds are I used the wrong driver.

I busted my laptop and I'm messing with that, then I can get back to fixing this. I have to have the laptop for work so it has priority.

If you don't wipe, you will not get the full space you should, in fact you may (and likely will) end up with less pace than you have before, but it can be done without a wipe.

No biggie. I don't have anything special installed that cannot be re-installed.

I flashed the other Aphrodite rom with xionia 005 kernel and WiFi works fine on that. No boot animation either. Now that I know that I have a backup of the stock kernel in my Nandroid backup, I might stick with that one.

Thanks for your work.

1.3.3A is up, this should work as expected now.

Since I am trying to keep it numbers matched to 1.x STD. I'll denote changes to this that don't effect their matchups with a letter at the end. It's just an internal build code for me so I know how they compare to each other. This is 1.3.3 but with a fix specific to this rom only, it it was a change to both, they would have become 1.3.4.

Note: I don't do a lot of testing on this rom as I don't use it, nor do I plan to, so please be sure to post your experience. This shoudl work much better than last time though.

Wow, this turned into a project.
I rebuilt it from the ground up, and verified it to work.

It took me a bit to figure out what was happening. The stock VM installer is quite a bit different than the roms we have been using, and is incompatible so this is using a stock VM installer instead of the Aphrodite installer.

If you wipe everything, you will get a quick Virgin animation, then go to a default Android boot animation. I did keep the malware patch, as well as performance and battery life tweaks (none should effect charging or anything else). It seems to run quite snappy really.

Be sure to wipe everything. This is radically different from the last two builds.

Quick minor bug(s): in your build.prop file, you have it like this:

ro.build.id=Aphrodite Extra Pure 1.x
ro.build.display.id=FRG83

Which displays FRG83 in Settings>>About Phone

... Also, you seem to be without a busybox, as I tried to pipe into less on this to no avail

Oops, not sure what I was thinking on that buildprop. I had a lot going on, this was a rather challenging rom to build actually.

There was something about busybox, I don't remember if it just fought me or what. I am planning a rework of all of the roms in the next few days anyhow. They all should see some improvements in battery and performance.

Instead of using this rom, though, I would highly encourage you to use 1.3.3 standard, and flash it with Picasticks kernel. This seems to make for a really good combination. Probably my favorite setup thus far.

Quick question - I already have the latest Rodmius installed, with one of the themes, and a good amount of system apps backed up and removed through SystemApp Remover; would I see a noticeable performance/memory gain if I took the time to install this (and remove the blue Rodmius theme), considering I'd install most of the Google apps?

How much do the alarms/ringtones actually take up, for example, and is there any way to remove them without this ROM?

Fun fact: New Aphrodite releases make some grown men squeal in delight. Cannot wait to dive into new versions of my preferred ROM, and thanks for continuing to support it, LeslieAnn.

Ultimately, I'm really still enthralled with how good the 1.3.3 std /picasticks combo feels, but I'm always a sucker for new and shiny things and will, no doubt, be looking forward to trying out some fresh contributions and sharing my thoughts on th--

Oooh. Look at that! A shiny penny! Be right back!

The alarms and ringtones actually take up quite a bit.

Rodimus has 9megs of media, then you also have a boot animation of 5megs, so 14megs.
Aphrodite has 2.75megs of media and no boot animation.

If you are happy with Rodimus, why not remove the media from Rodimus and copy in the media from Aphrodite. Should be the same procedure you used to add and remove apps (or just remove the larger files based on Aphrodite). It's just a different directory, media and sounds. Believe it or not, there are still a few other things that can be removed for another 5+ megs, and that is before you dive into the apps.

Some people people think all this was was a removal of Virgin bloat and a few apps. That is the basics, but it's certainly not the whole story.

LeslieAnn, I have a request. Can you build in the adblock hosts file? It is one of the only things (besides the prebuilt themes) that I am missing from rodimus.

That goes against what Aphrodite is.

Download Adfree in the Market (I use it), it does the same thing and allows for updates, which come more often than you think.

No worries, thanks for the advice. I had only seen adblock which was a pay app.

I've flashed the pure edition and picasticks' kernel, seems good so far. Anything we should worry about with this combo versus waiting until you package it up separately?
