Current List of Sprint/Clear 4G Unannounced Cities
This is the list of communities in the United States in which there is at least one tower of Sprint/Clear 4G service currently active. These are frequently referred to as "Unannounced Cities." There are more than 400 communities in which Sprint now has some basic 4G service, but does not officially acknowledge. Some of these connections may not be full speed 4G, as not all tower locations have had their backhaul upgraded. Peformance reults vary widely.

I started going through the Clear map every couple of days scanning for new service to pop up. I created a Facebook page where I post live updates of new towers as they are discovered. You can subscribe at: and get the latest information!

This is really good work. It appears then, that the smartest thing is to simply check with your phone to see if you have 4G service, regardless of what has been announced.

Use Sensorly, it shows where 4G is actually available. It's pretty accurate, I live in one of the "unofficial" cities but thanks to Sensorly I can't tell exactly where I have 4G coverage.

You would think so. But amazingly, so many people do not even know that they need to turn on their 4G antennas. I don't know how many arguments I have had with folks who say I am a liar, that the 4G in their city isn't working.
Then I have to respond with instructions. Then I either get a meager, "Oh, uhh, I found it..." response. Or no response at all!

Yes, thanks to this board, I just discovered Sensorly.com a couple days ago. I have been immersed in the Blackberry world for the past few years, and am trying to learn all I can about Android. I am excited about getting a Moto Photon in <2 weeks. Especially since now I know that I can have 4G service in some of the places I routinely go, although not yet at my house. But, I have WiFi at home, so it really doesn't hurt.

Re: Current List of Sprint/Clear 4G Unannounced Cities
Sprint/Clear have turned on 4G/WiMax service to the following cities in the past three weeks:
ALABAMA: Anniston (an additional tower east of the city)
GEORGIA: Flowery Branch
ILLINOIS: Kankakee, Ottawa
IOWA: Ames
MAINE: Caribou
MARYLAND: Cumberland
MINNESOTA: Wadena
NORTH CAROLINA: Asheville (an additional tower near Candler)
OHIO: Marion
OREGON: LaGrande
PENNSYLVANIA: Lock Haven
TENNESSEE: Crossville, New Tazewell
TEXAS: Lamesa
VERMONT: St. Johnsbury
VIRGINIA: Martinsville (An additional tower near Axton)
These are all Protection Sites. Indoor service is poor to non-existent at most protection sites, but will work well outside or in your car. You are now free to use your 4G devices in these areas. Have fun and happy surfin'! You can find out more about Sprint 4G Service areas as they come online, subscribe to the Sprint 4G Rollout Updates page on Facebook at:
Re: Current List of Sprint/Clear 4G Unannounced Cities
New to this site. G'day everyone. I actually have an iPhone 5 and was trolling for info about Sprint 4G in Tucson AZ. Sensorly.com says Tucson has 4G. I have 4G turned on on my phone (per your comment about people not knowing it needs to be turned on) but the Sprint network has NEVER shown this and the data speeds here are pretty bad. My question is, "How accurate really, is Sensorly.com?" So far I, from my own experience, I can only that that it is not.
Cheers
Re: Current List of Sprint/Clear 4G Unannounced Cities
This thread is about Clear 4G, which is WiMax. Did you check Sensorly for WiMax or LTE? The iPhone 5 is LTE. If Tucson has WiMax 4G, your device's 4G icon won't lit up.
