Phone in a boot loop, with "Kernel Panic" message when I try to go into recovery

My SGS3 is now in a "boot-loop", where the SAMSUNG screen comes up but then it reboots every time without going any farther. I can't go into recovery, because I get that "Kernel Panic" message, so I can't do a hard reset. Does anybody have any ideas on this? Thanks.

Did you install a new kernel or ROM?

It's been a while, but I think I used a custom tool to restore the ROM after downloading it. I'm not sure if it was Kies or not.
