720P Video With ATT Note

Here is a video I did in 720p. 1080p doesn't seem to improve the quality. Has any one compared 720p vs 1080p?

This was shot with the phone, created with Windows Live Movie Maker, and enhanced with youtube online editing for background music and "I'm feeling lucky" function for video improvement.

As far as the difference in quality from 720p to 1080p, I cannot immediately tell the difference. If you hadn't said it was 720p, I know I would not have picked that fact out on my own.

I think the 1080p video is actually just a 720p video zoomed in. Not sure if its actually 1080p quality or not...

Go to the camera app and look at the something in the screen at 720p and then switch to 1080p without moving the camera. Notice how the field of view changes...

So I think you do in fact get 1080P resolution, but the quality isn't any better than 720P

Your right! thats why 1080p shakes more.

I quess you could say it's not real 1080p. Not sure what is going on with the zooming technology, but it is there.

Are they creating more pixels by zooming? I love the note, but I'm not happy about this.

I'm not sure how they are doing this, maybe it can't process a full 1080p screen so they crop it? Its a good question really.

We need some side by side videos in both resolutions so we can compare I think...

1080 might be a tad sharper but only in great daylight conditions would you notice. 1080p shooting appears to simply take the middle of the 8MP sensor with no scaling. It seems to be zoomed to approximately 1920/3264=59% (that is the width of 1080p video and the width of an 8MP photo).

Does 1080p seem as smooth to you? It is supposed to be 30fps but does not seem as smooth as 720p so I always use 720 to shoot.

The worst thing to me is the slow continuous focus.

Looks like 720p is the way to go since the files are smaller and more manageable.

Update: I received the OTA update from XXKA to XLA6 and in a quick test the auto focus in videos is much faster and completely acceptable now! I didn't test the video quality though.
BTW, I have the international version so hopefully ATT gets the update soon also. (Still 2.3.6)

Exactly. Same rules apply both smartphones as ot does TV 's. Rule of thump is 40"< you won't notice a difference between 1080p and 720p.
