Re: Post Your Phone Timeline
Pretty simple and straightforward. The first half of my the phone experience was with US Cellular. Decent for voice service, but struggled with the smartphone data explosion. Had limited device selections, but on occasion had some interesting devices:
First Up - The Ubiquitous Nokia 3360:
Next - The Samsung Mesmerize (USC Galaxy S variant). Pretty nice, but had missed call/SMS problems with initial Froyo release.
After touch failed on the Mes, picked up the Moto Electrify 2 (USC Moto Defy variant). Well balanced form factor, but a little underpowered compared to its contemporaries:
Moving up from the underpowered E2, took on the Moto Q9C. And yes, it was this special USC lime green model:
During that time, also carried the Samsung IP-830W for work. A bit of a tank, but that thing kept going for years.
After moving to Verizon (due partly to USC's data problems, as well as coverage issues) went WP8 and Nokia Lumia 928. The primary draw was the camera with its f1.8 aperture. Have some amazing low light photos (milky way, the Pleides where you can see all 7) that would still be difficult to duplicate:
When Verizon released the Icon, it was a no brainer upgrade. About a perfect (to me) form factor. I appreciated the "heft" of the device, the larger screen coming from the 928, and the DNG photo option. It's been a very good device, was made better in WP8.1 update 2 (Denim), and have been running Windows 10 Mobile preview on it for the last 3 months. It finally took some minor damage in a fall with a bottom corner of the screen cracked, but with no operational impairment:
The 32GB non-expandable memory of the Icon has been more and more limiting recently. Combined with the obvious rift between Verizon and Nokia/Microsoft and the extended time frame before a "Surface" phone will be released, it was time to return to the 'droid world. After a lot of contemplation between the LG V10 and the Droid Turbo2, I went with the Moto. Customized a'la Ironman via Motomaker:
