I am looking for a new phone and i am considering the G1. Would you recommend I get one now or should I wait to see what new android phones are announced in the new year. Thanks in advance to everyone who replies to this post
Despite the economy being in a tailspin there is a lot happening with smartphones right now. The G1 Android is just one exciting development. I could have gone in many directions or waited but chose the G1 because I like the hardware and wanted to get into the software from the beginning. There will be more choices in a few months but I didn't see any reason to wait.I am looking for a new phone and i am considering the G1. Exchange and Office are not supported but should be soon (there already is a partially working Exchange app). I think everything else is a go already. These are my wish list for a smartphone:
1. ability to access my gmail personal account
2. ability to access my work email through microsoft exchange
3. threaded SMS
4. edit microsoft office documents
5. need a touch screen, wi-fi and 3G
6. download podcasts over the air
7. decent media player for watching movies
8. an FM radio client would be nice but not essential.
The hardware is also high-quality on the G1. It may be hard to find a better-built phone. It's solid.

Personally I would wait. I am still waiting to see what motorola is gonna have and there should be some nice devices announced for the new year. Also, the G1 isn't as awesome as I hoped it to be, Android on the other hand is great. I say wait.
Did you get the device fixed? Hopefully Samsung can help with repair or replacement.
