How do I adjust the volume LG G4 when the screen is locked?

I've always been able to use the volume up/down buttons to take my phone in and out of vibrate mode as I walk in and out of meetings all day. On my G4 pushing the volume up or down buttons while the phone is locked does nothing. I've tried it with the shortcut keys on an off (the whole camera thing works with the shortcut on, but a long hold instead of a double tap doesn't do anything either). What's the deal? Has LG always been like this?

Same here, i hoped for any changes with android 6, but still having the same issue...very annoying ;(
