How to change Google Messages notification sound on Note 20

Can't seem to find a way to do this. Seems that the only thing you can do is change the default notification sound which is not what I'm looking to do.

Does anyone know how to change the notification sound just for this one app?

I had this problem also recently on Samsung A21, and then figured it out after a lot and lot of looking in circles. However, can't now again find how I did it. Will keep looking.

Long press the Google app>tap info>tap notification>tap notification catagories>tap incoming messages>change sound

Get to its in app settings (the head icon at top right then message settings)

Then Notifications

Then Notification Categories

Then set a desired sound for incoming messages, for other notifications, and/or for whatever other categories you'd also like to set it for.

I have a Samsung Note 20 Ultra. I have tried to follow your instructions to change the notification tone for the app, but I seem to be missing the option that takes me to incoming messages. Does anyone feel like offering a suggestion? Please and thank you!

Google Messages. I finally figured it out. My screens aren’t exactly as described, but I finally found the right option and lo and behold I was able to change it. Thanks.
