Old question of which I have solution:
"WIFI File Transfer Pro" app is by "smarterDroid" and is solution to transfering files from HTC One M7 that has unavailable (grayed out) USB.
Though I never got my HTC's USB to be recognized, I already had this app on phone since there's no memory slot on this model and I had issues transferring files when my phone was new. (I paid $1.40 in March 2014.)
Surprisingly, WITH NO SIM CARD INSERTED (I didn't know it was possible to use Wifi without a SIM card), I was able to transfer all my photos, videos, ringtones, PDFs, etc., through my browser on my PC.
(I chose Zip files vs. individual files since there were so many files.)
Also, I'm using Win7 but I don't think it matters as long as you are connected to same WIFI.
Now I can factory reset phone.
What a lifesaver! I sure hope this helps somebody else.
