Gotcha. You are correct in the steps. Since everything uses a nano-SIM, you just need to put the right SIM in the right phone.

Thanks again for all the help and confirmation along the way. Once the phone ships and I try it out with the line switching, I'll report back

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Trying to figure out the best method for putting new phone on my UDP line.

I just upgraded a tiered line through Verizon Online Store. When the phone arrives what should I do to place this new phone on the UDP line?

Should I just take out the SIM and put UDP sim in phone or do I need to activate the new phone on Tiered line first?

It's recommended to activate on the tiered line first. This will remove the pending activation on the account.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So now that I know the upgrade options for subsidized phones are still there I'd like to undo my upgrade and return the phone. Got the iPhone6, but would prefer the iPhone6S when it is available. I have the phone and have not activated it nor opened the box. It looks like I have 14 days to return it and there is a $35 restocking fee.

Concerns:
-Will upgrade remain on the line it was transferred to (TDP) and still be available after return?
-Will VZW still offer subsidized pricing (2yr contracts) on future phones? Doesn't look like it. Looking at pricing from VZW on Note 5 (from AC post), there is no 2-yr contract pricing, only 24 months or full retail. So our upgrades are still good but only for current models as of 8/13/15?

Update: I see the Verizon Note 5 at Best Buy available for upgrade as a Pre-order(as mentioned in previous posts as well). Hope that option works and is still available with iPhone6s when available.

Ultimately, it depends on the phone you currently have, but the only method that really works is:

1.) Through Best Buy online, upgrade to a Note 5 and have the phone shipped to home
2.) When it arrives, do not try to charge or turn it on
3.) Remove the SIM that ships with the Note 5. Destroy this SIM
4.) Power off your current phone and remove its SIM
5.) Put the SIM from your current phone into the Note 5. Turn on the Note 5

Now, just wait a couple of minutes and you'll be all set.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I will use that method. Not sure if it matters, but I'll be upgrading from a Note 3 that's on a Nationwide Talk 450 UDP. Using the Best Buy method will preserve my plan in its entirety, correct?

I have 3 UDP lines that have upgrades available is there a safe way to use these upgrades without losing my UDP?

I have heard and seen here in the threads you can transfer them but then I read elsewhere that loophole has been closed and even seen where others lost their UDP.

Are we fairly sure it is still safe to transfer to another line?

There's No Pending Activation? Lol situation was an Upgrade on the Basic Line, ship to home, destroy sim, and swap in an UDP line sim for a few mins and then back out, is that why I don't see or won't see Pending? And if so, it safe to switch min plan or be in contact with Verizon??

I just looked at my account online and tried going through the upgrade. I don't see 2 yr options available anymore just says full price or installments. Good thing I pushed two phone upgrades through earlier this week.

Yes. There is always some risk to using loopholes, but if done correctly, you should be fine.

The only thing you need to keep your eye on is SIM card size. If the Note 5 moves to a nano, you'll need to cut your old SIM.

The pending activation is on your basic line.

You can transfer an upgrade from an unlimited line to either a tiered or basic line. The only transfer you cannot do is basic to smartphone.

Since you have a tiered line, my advice would be to transfer your upgrades to the tiered line and repeat it 3 times until you are all set.

One comment in general folks, if you're swapping SIMs, be gentle taking out and putting in. The pins are relatively fragile. I had to do some delicate bending with the tip of an X acto knife to bend one of the pins back into place when I swapped SIMs on my two phones recently.

Just attempted it and was a bit intimidated by the first screen that popped up. Is that normal? What should I select? Click link below for screenshot.

I had the same thing and dusoccer helped me through it. Assuming you dont have another line you can transfer the upgrade to, go through with the order as normal even though it will tell you you need to select a 2 GB plan. When the new phone arrives, DO NOT power it on! Take out the SIM the new phone shipped with and destroy it. Take the SIM in your current 'old' phone and place it into the new phone. Power on new phone.

You'll likely have a pending activation on the line for some time, but it'll eventually drop off

Thanks for the reply. Do you know which box I'm supposed to check in the screenshot? I assume the Upgrade My Device one, but I want to be sure.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello,

Like everyone else, I want to make sure I don't mess myself up, especially after just doing an online chat with a VZ 'specialist.'

Line 1 - Basic Phone, Upgrade Available, no data plan
Line 2 - TDP, No Upgrade Available, Loyalty $60/mo, 2GB plan
Line 3 - UDP, Upgrade Available, Nationwide Talk & Text

I would like to preorder the Note 5 for line 3. The Verizon chat 'specialist' informed me that if I order the phone from Line 1, the $30 data plan would be added, and need to stay on that line for the duration of the 2 year contract. I was also told that if I transfer the Line 3 upgrade to Line 2, it will remove my UDP. Any help would be truly appreciated! Thank you.

Does this work with multiple lines on your account as well?

As long as the phone can be shipped, you can pre-order. With a single line, you have to use Best Buy:

1.) Through Best Buy online, upgrade to a Note 5 and have the phone shipped to home
2.) When it arrives, do not try to charge or turn it on
3.) Remove the SIM that ships with the Note 5. Destroy this SIM
4.) Power off your current phone and remove its SIM
5.) Put the SIM from your current phone into the Note 5. Turn on the Note 5

Now, just wait a couple of minutes and you'll be all set.
I have 3 lines.

1 (mine) Note 2 UDP Upgrade available
2 (husband) iPhone 6 Plus UDP Upgrade Available
3 (daughter) iPhone 5c TDP - on Monday, I used her upgrade to order an iPhone 6 from Best Buy, because I thought Verizon would do away with the option. The iPhone 6 will be a surprise birthday gift on the 29th, for my daughter. IPhone 6 will be kept on this line.

The iPhone 6 is sitting at my desk, at work. I wasn't planning on activating until her birthday.
But from reading, I see the best option is to transfer upgrade from UDP to the TDP.

What should I do? I guess I'm willing to find a way to activate the iPhone 6, without my daughter finding out, if needed to transfer upgrades.
Or should I just go the Best Buy route, and order the Note 5 using my UDP line?

Thanks

Correct. That's a standard message on Best Buy's website. Just click "upgrade my device" and follow the rest of the directions. The big thing is to make sure that you can ship the phone home. Do not do in-store pick up!

This is why people should not be talking to Verizon reps! You definitely can transfer the upgrade from Line 3 to Line 2. In fact, this is exactly the method you should be using to upgrade the unlimited line. Just do the following:

1.) Through either Verizon or Best Buy online, transfer the upgrade from Line 3 to Line 2. Order the Note 5 and have it shipped to home.
2.) When the Note 5 arrives, go ahead and follow the activation instructions as you'll be activating it on the tiered line (Line 2)
3.) Wait at least an hour and make sure the phone works. Test calls, texts, and data
4.) After an hour, log onto Verizon and reactivate the old smartphone that was on Line 2.
5.) Now activate the Note 5 on Line 3

This will allow you to upgrade to a Note 5 on the unlimited line.
