Moving calendar appointments, stay on day

Using android 8.1, google Calendar app 4.4.07.0 -- When I move a calendar event to another day, the calendar jumps to the date that I moved the event to. In past versions, I could move an event and the calendar would stay on the date that I moved the event from. The current state makes it difficult to manage the calendar from my phone. Works fine on the web client. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Android Central! Which device do you have? That app version is really old -- I'm currently on 6.0.50. There aren't any updates available in the Play Store?

I'm using the Samsung J7, and I'm regretting it because of it only having 16GB on board

I guess I didn't think about updating the Calendar app because I thought it go updated with the kernel. I'll give that a try.
