Pixel C bluetooth headsets not working with Facebook Messenger and Microsoft Teams

My Pixel Buds 2 are paired and connected to my Pixel C tablet and work well for listening to audio. I however can't get them to work with any messenger programs such as Microsoft Teams and Facebook Messenger. The buds work just fine with my phone; a pixel 2XL. I have tried to forget and re pair the buds and checked the app settings for FB Messenger and Teams; all seems to be good there but the sound a mic these programs use is always the ones built in to the tablet.

Try BTmono (disable, run the app [Teams, Messenger, etc.], then enable). It's an old app, but it sometimes can solve a problem like this. (Make sure the buds are paired before starting any of this.)
