Samsung native messaging app shows a "2" on app when I only have one sms

Samsung native messaging application is showing that I have 2 messages when I only have one.

Welcome to Android Central! Did you archive or hide any conversations (if possible on your messaging app)? If not, try going to Settings>Apps​, tap Menu>Show System, and look for an app called BadgeProvider, or something similar. Select it, then Storage, then Clear Cache/Clear Data. Now see if the problem persists.
