Stock Email app locked and doesn't work after update?

I recently upgraded my phone to Android 5.1.
I've been using the stock email app for about two years no problem until now. It will no longer connect, sinc, or even validate.
I went to the settings/apps/email to try and clear data/cache, but only clear cache is available.
Disable, force stop, and clear data are all greyed out.
I tried going to delete the com.Android.email client or whatever it is, but there is no folder anywhere that I can find. I tried user/data (no such folder), Android/data (no folder inside).
I have a Moto X if that helps.
