Why are some messages shown as having been opened but i didnt open them ir see a notification?

[Android Central Question]

Sometimes I open my messages app and see that a contact had sent me a text message at some point earlier, because their name is higher in the list of conversations. However, the conversation is not bolded, indicating a new, unopened message. I also did not see a message preview in my notifications. So I keep missing messages because they are not showing up bolded (unread) in the list view of the messages app, and I'm not see their texts in the notifications screen. Why is this happened and how can I stop it?

Sometimes force stop the message app can help with a glitch , if that doesn't work you can try clearing data then force stop the app and see if everything ok

Is the app connected to a desktop that someone else might have access to and could be reading them?
