Why does my screen dims while typing

[Android Central Question]

my screen dims when I use my keyboard, but the keyboard stays full brightness.
I'm not sure how this happened but it makes it very difficult to see what I'm typing.
I have a samsung galaxy S20

just to eliminate a few things... when you see this dimming phenomenon, is a strong light source (such as the sun) directly hitting the camera?
reason I ask is that display tends to dim if the selfie (front) camera is in the shade while out in a sunny day may dim due to the phone thinking the surrounding is dark enough that it can lower the screen brightness.

I'm also encountering this. Dims the part of the screen that is NOT the keyboard. Happens with any app that the keyboard opens on.
I suspect this is a keyboard issue or bug (or feature?) but can't figure out what has changed. Only noticed it in the past week or so. I always use auto-bright, and never noticed this before. i have a Samsung Galaxy s10e. Had this phone for over a year. I love it!

EDIT: Nevermind. I restarted the phone and it's fixed. Weird.
