Why does my screen stay on for only 3 seconds when it is waking up?

After the initial wake-up, my screen will blink on and off. Once I have placed my fingerprints on it, it will stay on.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? If it's a Samsung, make sure Smart Stay is turned off. Also make sure there aren't any power saving modes turned on.
