Why is my phone taking over 12 hours to charge?

why is phone taking over 12 hours to charge

i plugged my phone in at 20% at around 6pm last night and it is only on 70% now

Welcome to Android Central! Are you plugged into a wall outlet or a computer USB port? USB charging is significantly slower than AC charging.

If you're plugged into a wall outlet, sometimes a defective plug will register as USB rather than AC. While plugged in, go to Settings>Battery​, and see if it says "Charging (AC)" or "Charging (USB)."
